That’s A Wrap! | My Reads and Reviews from May + My June TBR

I think I had a pretty successful return to blogging this month. Well, for the second half of it, at least.

I was a bit preoccupied with school, but afterwards I managed a solid week or two of blogging with the occasional break here and there. So, lets see what I’ve been up to!

What I've Read

A Conjuring of Light | V.E. Schwab | Review to Come

Initial Thoughts: Fast-paced. Exciting. Strong-world building and character development. I love Lila, Kell, Rhys, Alucard, Hastra, Holland…. I love everything about this book! Probably 4.5 stars.

A Court of Wings and Ruin | Sarah J. Maas | Review to Come

Initial Thoughts: Fantastic. So well-done. Rhys and Feyre are just. so. amazing. The Night Court is life. I love these characters. All hail Maas and her beautiful storytelling. A perfect ending (and beginning)! Probably 5 stars.

The Love Interest | Cale Dietrich | Review to Come

Initial Thoughts: Loved the satire (when it was present). Great themes and exposure of clichéd YA tropes. A bit boring in the middle. Not as much spy action as I had hoped there would be. Pretty enjoyable regardless. Probably 3.5 stars.

Flame in the Mist | Renee Ahdieh | Review to Come

Initial Thoughts: Slow build-up but great world-building. Fantastic characters. Loved Manako. Girl-power to the max. Allusions to Mulan. Cute romance. Well-researched. Great writing. Probably 4.5 stars.

Lord of Shadows | Cassandra Clare | Review to Come

Initial Thoughts: This book had me dead. My favorite read. Amazing characters. Fantastic character development. Cassie Clare’s most mature work to date. Funny, sweet, action-packed, full of adventure and heartbreak. Loved it to pieces. THAT ENDING THOUGH. One of the easiest 5 stars I’ve ever given.

Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda | Review to Come

Initial Thoughts: Now I see what everyone’s been talking about. One of my favorite reads already. Funny, heart-warming, frustrating, and wonderful. Love love love Simon and his friends and family. 5 stars.

Splintered |A.G. Howard | ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 1/2

Quick Review: Great world-building. Fun. Fast-paced. Characters need some work.

And I Darken | Kiersten White | ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 1/2

Quick review. Excellent writing. Brilliant characters. Emphasis on female empowerment. Love interest needs improvement.

Highlights1. I graduated from university!! I am officially a USC alum! And even though I don’t have a job, I still feel great. Something’ll come along. Until then, I’ll just keep reading, blogging, and talking to you guys 🙂

2. After graduation, I finally have the time to read again. I’m officially back on Goodreads, y’all.

3. Receiving both ACOWAR and LoS this May felt like an early Christmas, and I wasn’t disappointed with either of them.

Monthly TBR

  • A Study in Charlotte | Brittany Cavallard
  • Hunted | Megan Spooner
  • Tell Me Three Things | Julie Buxbaum
  • My Lady Jane | Cynthia Hand
  • Scythe | Neal Shusterman
  • Falling Kingdoms | Morgan Rhodes
  • Fangirl | Rainbow Rowell
  • Geekerella | Ashley Poston

I’m so excited to read all these books. There might be a couple books I might read in lieu of the books I’ve chosen here, but there are some I’m definitely going to be reading (My Lady Jane, Fangirl, and Geekerella).

I’ve just received Geekerella in the mail, so I think that’ll be the first one I read. I’ve just heard so much about it lately that I wanna see what all the fuss is about!

Anyways, that’s the end of this post. Happy reading and happy June to you all! I’ll see ya soon!

  1. You got through some incredible books this month Azia. I am so so glad to see you loved A Conjuring of Light, A Court of Wings and Ruin, and Flame in the Mist, and I can’t wait to see your reviews for those three along with the others book you got through. I’ve heard some good things about Lord of Shadows (vague things though because I haven’t read that book yet) and a lot about the insane cliffhanger at the end (a cliffhanger that it is said is worse than the one at the end of A Gathering of Shadows!)
I hope you manage to get through all the books on your TBR list as well, Geekerella is on mine for June and it sounds just amazing!
Great recap, I hope you have a great June as well Azia! 😀 ❤

    1. I really did! I I loved all three of those books. It’ll take me a while to write the reviews but just know they’re all 4 stars and above 😀 And yes, the ending to Lord of Shadows was ridiculous. Definitely worse than A Gathering of Shadows. So much worse…
I hope so too! And I hope we both love Geekerella! 😊❤

      1. Well that alone tells me your reviews for these books are going to be good ones! And I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for them as well. 🙂
In that case I really am waiting for the release of the third book before picking up this series! 😀

      2. I’ll be desperately trying to write my reviews. I am now officially 13 reviews behind. I am SO proud of myself LOL XD
And that’s probably a good idea! These cliffhangers are vicious nowadays haha

      3. Oh no! Hope you manage to catch up soon. Don’t be like me, Beth. DON’T BE LIKE ME. *cries in a corner as she thinks about all the reviews she’s procrastinated on writing* If you see a lot of mini reviews popping up on my blog, you’ll know why LOL

      4. Yeah me too! I’ll be working the rest of this weekend and all of next week to write out my reviews and schedule them all for the ret of the month lol. And I agree, sometimes taking a step back from the story helps you to write a more coherent review! I prefer to do that, myself 🙂

      5. Sounds wonderful! Glad to see everything’s coming together. Now I just gotta get my wish together haha. I have a plan though. Next month I won’t read any books for review and will just read the HP series for fun. In the meantime, I’ll focus on finishing all my reviews, tag, and awards in my queue! 😀

      1. The downside of working is… less time to read. And vacation time are so limited, but the good side is… more $$ for books!! 😍 Welcome to adulthood 😊

      2. Why thank you! LOL, I expected as much! Although, my main goal is to get money for books, so you can say I am extremely motivated 😉 Let’s hope I can find a job by the end of the summer!

  3. Wow, you’ve had such a busy and productive month. Congrats on your graduation, that’s such a big accomplishment! Tell Me Three Things is an awesome summer read, and one of my favorite feel-good books of all times.
I’m new to blogging and book reviewing, and am very impressed by your blog. I was wondering if you had any tips for newbie bloggers and book reviewers.
If you have the time, please check out my blog @breenysbooks. I’d love any feedback. Have a wonderful day.

  4. I know I already said it in another post a little while back but congrats on graduating Azia!! 😁 It looks like you had a fantastic reading month. But I think with both ACOWAR and LoS that May was going to be an incredible reading month no matter what. Both of those books were just beyond incredible. And I saw Beth’s comment about hearing that the ending for LoS is worse and AGOS. I’m so the one who told her that. I was like you might want to hold off until the last book is out because ouch that ending. 😂 I can’t believe we have to wait until 2019! 😭 And I so can’t wait to see what you think of Fangirl because that one is one of my all-time favorite contemporaries. It’s so cute. Anyway! I hope you have an incredible June. 💕

    1. Thanks so much, Melissa! 😀 It feels great to be free of school but now I gotta find a job. I can tell it’ll be difficult haha. And I really did! LoS and ACOWAR definitely guaranteed May to be a wonderful month. And I thought it’d be you to tell her haha! That LoS ending is no joke. I think she’s set on holding off until the third book comes out. Too bad we have to suffer for TWO YEARS! I can’t wait to read Fangirl. I’ve heard nothing but good things. Thank you! I hope you do too! ❤

      1. You’re welcome!! 😁 Good luck with the job search. I know how difficult that can be.
It really wasn’t. I swear LoS was probably the most brutal cliffhanger ending for a book I’ve ever read. My mom and little sister are currently reading it and I can’t wait for them to get to the ending. I can imagine them freaking out already. 😂 Yeah she’s holding out until the last TDA book is released so she doesn’t have to wait lol. At least we have the first book in The Last Hours trilogy releasing next year and then the first Magnus book this fall. 😁

      2. Thanks, Melissa!! ❤
Oh your poor poor mother and sister! LOL, I wouldn't want to experience that cliffhanger for the first time ever again. It's just so bloody painful haha. I can't imagine anyone surviving that ending without feeling like their heart's been ripped out of their chest lol
I haven't heard about The Last Hours…. But I just checked it out and OMG I am SO ready for that!! And a book about Magnus??!! YAAAAAAASSSSS XD
