The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue | Mackenzi Lee

Hardcover: 528 pages

Publication Date: June 27, 2017

Goodreads Synopsis

“Henry “Monty” Montague was born and bred to be a gentleman, but he was never one to be tamed. The finest boarding schools in England and the constant disapproval of his father haven’t been able to curb any of his roguish passions—not for gambling halls, late nights spent with a bottle of spirits, or waking up in the arms of women or men.

But as Monty embarks on his grand tour of Europe, his quest for a life filled with pleasure and vice is in danger of coming to an end. Not only does his father expect him to take over the family’s estate upon his return, but Monty is also nursing an impossible crush on his best friend and traveling companion, Percy.

Still it isn’t in Monty’s nature to give up. Even with his younger sister, Felicity, in tow, he vows to make this yearlong escapade one last hedonistic hurrah and flirt with Percy from Paris to Rome. But when one of Monty’s reckless decisions turns their trip abroad into a harrowing manhunt that spans across Europe, it calls into question everything he knows, including his relationship with the boy he adores.”

The early reviews for this book have been the majority positive, and so I’m really excited to see if it lives up to the hype. According to Amazon, this book is a “hilarious and swashbuckling stand-alone teen historical fiction novel” and that it’s basically “Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda meets the 1700s.” Can I REALLY ask for anything more PERFECT?!

  1. I have seen this cover around everywhere.. The cover is not so cute to me so I didn’t think it’s any good but now you say it’s hilarious and comparable to Simon vs… I may have to think on it again. Enjoy your read though!!

    1. The cover is horrendous but the premise sounds extra promising. And there are plenty of positive reviews for it so far so I’m thinking it might be a winner. Thank you! Hope it lives up to the hype 😄

  3. I have been seeing this book everywhere recently, so much so that I eventually caved and added it to my to-read list as well. I’m sure it’s going to be an amazing book, especially because like you said the pre-release reviews are anything to go by. Also your description of “Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda meets the 1700’s” has me hooked as well. I love Simon Vs and I also enjoy books set in the past. 🙂
Great pick for this week Azia! 😀 ❤
