Reading Update | January

So, my TBR has changed up a little bit this month. There were some books that have taken me a bit longer to get through and I’ve also added a new one to my list!

Finished

Batman: Nightwalker | Marie Lu

I finished this one about a week or so ago. It turns out that I really enjoyed it. Marie Lu did an excellent job bringing a fresh, new perspective to the Batman storyline. I’ve been mostly keeping up with my reviews for this month. You can see my review for this one here!

The Hazel Wood | Melissa Albert

This was my most recent read. My review is already posted. I really enjoyed this one despite its confusing nature and slow build-up. The Alice in Wonderland vibe and gorgeous writing encouraged me to rate this one fairly high!

Currently Reading

Ok, hear me out. I can explain why I’m reading three books at the same time!

The Upside of Falling Down | Rebekah Crane

I received this book from Netgalley and I have to read and review this one before its release date on January 30th! So far it’s all right. The premise is interesting but I’m not 100% sold on the romance and characters just yet. At least it’s taking place in Ireland!!!

Unearthed | Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

I’ve been wanting to read this one since discovering it. The moment I had it in my hands, I began reading. So far it’s REALLY good! It’s been a while since I’ve read a good sci-fi. The last one was Gemina. I can’t compare the two just yet, but we’ll see!

Call Me By Your Name  | André Aciman

There are several reasons why I’m reading this book: 1) I saw the film adaptation of this and FELL IN LOVE. Timothée Chalamet is spectacular and the direction of this film was glorious. I love everything about the movie 2) I saw it with a friend of mine and he and I both became curious about the book 3) At the same time, we were trying to find a good book to start off our Starbucks bookclub. So that’s how this one ended up on my reading list. I’ve read part one and I have to say it’s much more explicit and strange than I thought it would be. But I like it! Gotta see what the rest of the book is like. But for now, I can honestly say that I might prefer the film over the book!

Books to Read

Honestly, those three books will probably take me to the end of the month, but just in case I magically manage to finish all three, here are two more books I’m looking to read this month or right after I finish the three above!

I’m leaning mostly toward The Cruel Prince because I LOVE Holly Black and I’ve heard so many amazing things about the book. But I’m really excited for both! I’ll probably get to them first thing next month, though. Sadness 😦 So many good books, so little time!

That’s all for now! Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see ya soon! ❤

  2. I’m glad you’re enjoying Unearthed at the moment Azia! 😀 I still have that on my to-read list and honestly I don’t think I’ll be getting to it anytime soon. I do have to say if you end up finishing the book thinking it is as good as or even better than Gemina I will have to drop everything and rush out to pick up my own copy, so let me know when you’ve finished reading it! 🙂
Also I really hope you enjoy The Cruel Prince, that was one of my most anticipated releases because I am a huge Holly Black fan but it more than lived up to my hopes so I’m sure it will for you. I also hope you manage to get around to it soon too!
Great post, and happy reading. 🙂 ❤

    1. So far Unearthed s going well. The romance and repetitive thoughts are kind of frustrating, but the scientific Indiana Jones vibe is really cool. Gemina and Illuminae are still the top dogs of YA sci-fi, imo.
      Thanks Beth! :D<3

  3. I can’t wait to read Batman: Nightwalker next month! I ordered it last week and it finally came. I managed to snag a signed copy on B&N but I’m glad to see you loved it. 🙂

  4. I’ve heard so many amazing things about Holly Black and The Cruel Prince too, I feel like I HAVE to check this one out 🙂 Neil Shusterman, Batman and The Hazel Wood are also on my TBR.
Great post, Azia! Hopefully you manage to read more than three books until the end of the month but if not, those are already pretty good! Go, you brave girl you 😀
