Top 5 Wednesday | My Favorite Summer Reads

Oh boy, it’s been a while since I’ve done a Top 5 Wednesday. I finally got the chance to check the theme for today and yay! It’s an awesome topic. Who doesn’t love a good summer read?

I don’t know about you guys, but I instantly think of contemporary books for summer reads! So here’s my list:

Paper Towns | John Green

I read this book last summer and it just felt right. I loved the majority of this book (the ending could use some work) mostly because of the adventurous spirit of it. What better way to carry out the essence of summer than through an impromptu road trip? I think I’ll be rereading Paper Towns for this summer and many summers to come.

Anna and the French Kiss | Stephanie Perkins

I’ve recently read this book and all I could think when reading it was “Wow, this would have made for the perfect summer read!” This book with its fluffy romance and Paris setting inspire the wanderlust in all of us and as we all know, summer is the perfect time to travel. And if you don’t have the means to go anywhere, then this book has everything you need to help you travel far and experience new things while sitting at home.

Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour | Morgan Matson

This is the book that started it all for me. After reading this amazing story, all I wanted to do was travel, starting with an epic road trip across the nation with my closest friends during the summer after high school graduation, right before college. Even though that trip never happened, I was still inspired to travel far and wide sometime in my life, all because of this book. It’s the perfect summer read as it’ll take you places you’ve never been before.

A List of Cages | Robin Roe

While this book is a bit more on the sad side, the characters and their relationships with one another give off such positive vibes, it’s hard not to get good feelings. And that’s all I want during my summer. It’s a story of growth and love, of saddening realizations and moments of hope, a perfect combo that will break you down and lift you up at the same time during your summer days.

Second Chance Summer | Morgan Matson

It’s literally got summer in the title. And I’m going to be honest, that’s the main reason why I chose it. But I also chose it because it’s got that well-known summer set-up with a small, heartbreaking spin on it. It’s a sad book, but it’s also romantic and funny, and a perfect book to take with you on summer vacation.

The Host and Twilight | Stephanie Meyer & Graceling | Kristin Cashore

In other words, my guilty pleasures. For some reason, I get to the urge to revisit each of these books (two of which I actually like, *coughTheHostandGracelingcough*) every summer. There’s just something so cozy and summer-y about them.
