Wrap Up: May 2020 | Reads and Reviews + A Quick Word on Current Events

Hello! Nice to see you again. Hope you are all doing well, all things considered…

I know that each month I resolve to blog hop a bit more, but I keep getting distracted with my reading. The extra time I have on my hands makes me so much more excited to read every single day for hours on end. At this point, I think it’s time for me to accept the motto: Que será, será.

Regarding the month of May, it was a successful reading month. I adhered to my sci-fi theme, though I changed up my TBR a bit. But I got through a grand number of books and I managed to finally get to one of my most anticipated rereads this year.

Before I move on to the bookish part of this post, I’d like to take a moment to address the most prevalent issue plaguing the United States currently. I’m sure that most of everyone is aware of the upsetting situation regarding George Floyd and the protests that have taken place in response.

I will not speak too much about the heinous crime and the present civil unrest, but I will ask that you take a moment to consider the reasons as to why Floyd’s death holds such a powerful impact on the nation. Racism, both individual and systemic, is alive and thriving in our society and government, and it must be addressed. Justice and equality are the stars that we must strive to obtain. This cannot be done silently. We must seek change. We must speak. We must act.

I highly recommend this video from Trevor Noah. The video is long, but insightful and enlightening to those who might be struggling to understand the anger that has been incited within thousands of individuals across the globe. #BlackLivesMatter

Okay, on to the wrap up!

A Reaper at the Gates | Sabaa Tahir

Falling Kingdoms | Morgan Rhodes

Sorcery of Thorns | Margaret Rogerson

Skyward | Brandon Sanderson

  • I’ve reached 900+ followers!!!!!
  • Some of my blogging buddies have been so kind as to tag/nominate me for some book tags. Quick shoutout to: Laura, Steff, and Sofii. I will someday get to those tags ❤
  • Rereading The Hunger Games trilogy was even better than I had anticipated. Those books are amazing
  • There is solidarity across multiple communities as we fight for justice, equality, and fairness
  • I started a workout routine that encourages me to be active every day
  • I finally read Dune. And I liked it!
  • The end of May marked the 70th day of my learning streak on Duolingo. My French vocabulary is ever-expanding 😀

I hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy. Not just physically, but mentally as well. The world is a little chaotic right now, and I know how taxing and soul-wrenching it can be to try to deal with and balance it all. So please, take care.

Hopefully, June will bring some good. I plan to read and blog quite a bit, but to also stay up to date on everything that is happening. I’ll be posting my TBR for this month soon.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Until next time 💕💕💕

    1. Thank you!! 💕 The Dark Descent is an interesting book for sure! I loved Elizabeth as a character. The beginning is strong and eerie. I wasn’t sold on the ending but the book was still a must-read for lovers of Frankenstein and gothic themes 😀 Definitely recommend!
