Down the TBR Hole | #3

In my last DTH post, I cut 9 out of the 10 books I took a closer look at on my to-read shelf on Goodreads. I’m somewhat hoping that I’ll be able to do another major cut and slim down my official TBR. There comes a time when you just realize that your reading tastes have changed and it’s best to let some books go.

Down the TBR Hole is a weekly book meme created by the wonderful Lia @ Lost in a Story that attempts to organize our ridiculously long Goodreads TBR list by choosing either to keep or eliminate the books we’ve saved on there.

I had been interested in this book when it was first released, mostly for the various forms of rep, the wonderland-esque, Dia de los Meurtos influences, and the inclusion of witches! It sounded amazing, but the reviews have mostly been middling and I’m not sure that I’m completely convinced that this would be a book I could love.

The Judgement: GO

Even though I’m a fan of Amie Kaufman and I enjoyed Hunted by Meagan Spooner, I’m not sure that I’ll ever be motivated enough to pick this one up. I am more than sure I would have loved this book if I had read it a few years ago. But now? Not so much. It’s a story that’s been done before several times over and at this point, I need more than just an intergalactic love story to be entertained.

The Judgement: GO

One of my goals as a middle school librarian is to read more middle grade fiction. I’ve heard that The Land of Stories is actually a pretty entertaining series, and though these books are pretty sizable, I’m not opposed to diving into one of these upon my return to my library.

The Judgement: Keep

This is actually the third book to the Remnant Chronicles and I have yet to read the first book. So for now, this one can leave the TBR.

The Judgement: Go

I must have been convinced that I’d love this series, since I added all the books to my TBR. Seeing as I have not read the first book yet, I’ll have to remove this second installment of the Remnant Chronicles.

The Judgement: Go

Here it is! The first book of the Remnant Chronicles! I’ve heard this series is actually pretty good and most reviews that I’ve skimmed seem to confirm that conclusion. I want to try to read it sooner rather than later, just in case some of its concepts might be considered outdated 2-3 years from now.

The Judgement: Keep

Yes, I will read this one. Probably in June or July.

The Judgement: Keep

I had been interested in this one a few years ago, mostly for the cover. And it had been a while since I’d read an urban fantasy that wasn’t Cassie Clare’s Shadowhunter series. But as the reviews rolled in, I noticed that it didn’t sound like it quite matched up to the promise of it being similar to Bardugo and Clare’s works. Even though the cover is gorgeous, I’m pretty certain that the window for this one has closed. My interest is elsewhere, unfortunately.

The Judgement: Go

On the one hand, the synopsis to this book sounds pretty compelling. On the other hand, the reviews are extremely mixed. Usually if I want to read a book and the reviews are fairly contradicting, I end up giving the book a shot anyways. In this case, however, I’m hesitant to read it since I’ve been on the fence about this one even before reading the reviews. I’m thinking I probably wouldn’t suffer too much by letting this one go????

The Judgement: Go

I had forgotten that I put this one on my TBR and I did so without reading the synopsis. Someone recommended it to me and I just put it on there. But now that I’ve read the premise, I’m certain that I should give this book a chance. It sounds pretty emotional and may be a little tough to get through, but I’m game.

The Judgement: Keep

The Totals

Keep – 4

Go – 6

    1. Yeah! It’s by Chris Colfer (Kurt) from Glee! I’m so happy he’s found success in publishing 😀 I hope to get around to it someday. I’ll let ya know if I ever post up a review for it!

  1. Oh I’m so, so on the fence about Labyrinth Lost just as well. I’m so curious about the premise, but all the mixed reviews about it has me a little hesitant to pick it up…. I guess if I hesitate for too long, it’s time to give it up ahah 🙂

  2. I love these posts because they really let us have an overview of everything we have (and have most likely forgotten about)!! I haven’t read any of the books mentioned tho, so I can’t really give a helpful opinion, but I hope you do enjoy what you’re keeping 😀
