HAPPY NEW YEAR! | Goals for 2020

This year I’ve decided to do away with the term “resolutions” and just go with the good ‘ol fashioned term “goals.” I rarely live up to my resolutions, but when I set goals, I tend to do a bit better for some reason??? 2020 won’t be the year of “new year, new me.” It’ll be the year of progress. I’ll just keep on going as I’ve been going, making choices that I think will be best for me. Hopefully those future choices of mine will lead me down a bright path filled with happiness and anticipation for what life will bring.

Bookish Goals

  • Finish reading the unread books in my library
  • Go to the bookstore every month to buy 1-2 books off the shelves that I did no previous research on
  • Invest in more thrift book shopping
  • Set a manageable reading and blogging schedule
  • Reread one book or series I haven’t read in a while every month
  • Read at least 1 book every week but allow enough time for other hobbies

Life Goals

  • Try to bake something new at least once a month
  • Take a walk every day unless the weather is bad
  • Excel in my new job by keeping the library organized, getting to know the kids and hosting more activities
  • Budget my finances and attempt to pay off all my loans
  • Buy a new bed and desk
  • Communicate more often and agree to more social events
  • Stay up to date on current events, both domestic and international
  • Do as I say I will do (i.e. I plan to go to New York this year, so I will)
  • Go to new places alone to enjoy my own company
  • Take more pictures

My main objective this year is to allow myself some joy. I can obtain a moment of happiness by doing the simplest of things and so when I think that I might like go to the park for a walk, I WILL go to the park for a walk. When I am considering eating something new and different, I WILL eat something new and different. If I am dreaming about visiting a national park, I WILL visit a national park.

Too often I find myself saying no; no to little desires, no to social invitations, no to small adventures. And I know that, in retrospect, I might have enjoyed doing many of those things.

To remedy this, I’ve decided that if I think I might enjoy something but my inner voice tries to talk me out of it, I’ll simply tell the voice to quiet down. I’ll give it a go. I have to.

Because I can’t allow myself to miss any more opportunities. Sure, some matters require more thought before action, but for small things (i.e. visiting a new cafe, trying a new drink, taking a hike alone, treating myself to a fancy dinner) I need to allow myself the luxury of them.

I’m tired of living a life that feels really routine. Small choices can make all the difference. And I need to shake some things up! I ain’t old yet haha.

So those are my goals for 2020! I’m really hoping to manage all this and do the best that I can. I want this year to be more exciting. There were only a few memorable moments last year, so I’m determined to make more vibrant memories and be sure to record them as well.

That’s all for now. Thanks so much for stopping by. Until next time ❤

  1. I definitely prefer having goals over resolutions. Making my goals more specific has helped me stay consistent with following through and also not beating myself up when I do make a mistake, it’s important to forgive ourselves and continue on even if we’ve had a slip up 🙂 I hope this helps

    1. The specificity of goals certainly helps to better achieve them rather than general resolutions. I like having an outline of what I can do better. Mistakes will definitely be made, but I’m ready for them 😀 Thanks so much! ❤

    1. Joy can be found in a variety of ways. I intend to find them in as many of the little things I can. And maybe by the end of the year, I’ll have known great joy as a whole 😀 Thanks so much! Wishing you all the best for this year ❤ Sending good vibes your way!

  2. Those are great goals, Azia, and I’m sure you’ll be able to achieve them! I’m also lowkey working on enjoying the little things more and actually allowing myself to go to things, be with people, be happy. Happy 2020! 😀

    1. Thank you! The little things in life are much more important than we think! They can bring so much happiness to us if we let them 😉 Glad you’re thinking about it too! Good luck and happy 2020 ❤

    1. Thank you! And I have! I use that site along with book outlet. But I usually just visit my local used bookstores. So many great but cheap books waiting to be bought 🙂 Rereading is definitely going to be the hardest part this year but I’ve been missing some of the old characters and stories I’ve read so that’ll be my motivator!

  3. This is such a great post and these are wonderful, lovely goals. Sometimes all we need to shake things up a bit is change and pay attention to the little things and to these little voices telling us we can do this, too. I hope that this year will be wonderful and filled with possibilities and happiness for you! ❤ ❤ ❤
