Let’s Talk: A Life and Bookish Update + Monthly TBR

Hello there, friends, it’s been a second. By this I mean I may have posted some reviews lately but I haven’t really TALKED with y’all in a while. Haven’t given you a tiny glimpse into what’s happening in my life right now.

Honestly, I haven’t shared much lately because I haven’t had much to share. I’ve literally just been working and occasionally reading for the past few months.

There have been some changes in the past couple of weeks though, that I thought were worth sharing. So! Here’s what I’ve got:

Taaa daaa!!!

YES, FRIENDS, I GOT A NEW JOB. For the past two years I’ve been working two part-times, the first being Starbucks (which I started working at in 2017) and the second being an elementary school librarian (a job I started in August of 2018).

Over the past year, I’d become really dissatisfied with my packed schedule. I could barely find the time to read, blog, hang out with friends, or spend time out in the world (mostly because I was too tired to do any exploring). I was hella exhausted and I was exhausted with being exhausted.

Since Starbucks was the most draining of my two jobs, I started searching over the summer to replace it with another part-time, one less demanding and more my speed and interest. Meaning, books. I wanted to work with books.

Most of my applications were for library assistant jobs. I applied to five part-time jobs and waited to hear back. Two were rejections, two disappeared into the ether, and one was a positive response (I secured an interview and was placed on the eligibility list).

There was one application, however, that I considered my Hail Mary. It was the only full-time job I applied to and it was a Library Media Tech position at a middle school. I had absolutely no confidence I would hear back.

Well, joke’s on me because I actually did.

My interview came out of nowhere, but I threw on my lemon skirt and my best smile and tried my best. Next thing I know I’m being called by the personnel specialist letting me know that the principal wanted me.

My heart…I can’t even explain. It’s bursting with happiness and so much more. I know it’ll be a challenge but I love a good challenge.

Yesterday was my first day and after having gotten used to my job as an elementary school librarian, I was definitely overwhelmed by the middle school culture. SO. MUCH. MORE. TO DO.

But the library is large and bright and beautiful.

I love it so much!

So even though I’m working with older kids, I can still see myself being very happy at my new job. I can’t wait to see what adventures it brings to me this coming year!!

Recent Reads

I actually JUST finished Ready Player One and I have to be honest and say that I wasn’t as impressed with it as I thought I would be. I may have ruined myself by watching the film first, but really, the movie was so much more entertaining than the book for me.

I’ll be reviewing all of these (except Slayer since it was actually some time ago) in full soon. So be on the lookout for them!!

I finally got around to reading Divergent, but I went by way of audio book. And I’m so glad I did because I ADORE the narrator. I urge you to PLEASE try out some books narrated by Emma Galvin. Her voice is so emotive and filled with personality. She’s done the entire Divergent series and also my favorite LGBTQIA+ pick from June, Girl Mans Up.

Nothing. I’m not reading a damn thing.

But that’s only because I’ve been too busy running around trying to transition from two part-times to a full-time. Other than that, I now have so much more time to read, blog, and hang out anytime after 4p. It’s so wonderful to sit here and type all this out without worrying that I might have a shift later in the evening!!!

I digress. I’ve cobbled together a list of books I might want to read next. Since I checked out the audio book to Insurgent a week ago, I’ll definitely start on that this week!

I can’t wait to read ALL of these. I so hope they’ll be fantastic. Four of these authors are insta-buys for me (Black, Bardugo, Stiefvater, Lu). So I have a good feeling in my bones that I’ll enjoy them. I freaking LOVE the Scythe series. I really need to know what happens next, especially after that cliffhanger. And I’ve been sent copies of the Iskari series so I can’t wait to dive in!

Hopefully, I get to read all these books this month. I also need to catch up on my Goodreads challenge. Apparently I’m 7 books behind…Gotta fix that.

All righty then, my friends, that’s my hella long update. If you made it this far, thanks a million!

I’ll try to get back in the groove of things here in the blogosphere. Posting regularly, blog-hopping, and reading every day is my ultimate goal this month. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for stopping by! Until next time ❀

    1. Thank you! I actually really enjoyed the film. The book is sooooo different though! I definitely think it’s the sort of book that should be read before the book, but I think each has their own merits 😊 Happy reading!
