Down the TBR Hole #5

It’s about that time again to look through my TBR list and see which ones should stay and which should leave!

Down the TBR Hole is a weekly book meme created by the wonderful Lia @ Lost in a Story that attempts to organize our ridiculously long Goodreads TBR list by choosing either to keep or eliminate the books we’ve saved on there.

QUEEN OF SHADOWS (TOG #4) | Sarah J. Maas

I think I’ll most likely be reading this book sometime this year or the next, but first, I have to read Heir of Fire. I’ve had that one sitting on my shelves for nearly two years and have yet to get around to it. Who knows, maybe after I finish HOF, I won’t want to read this one, but that feels unlikely. Plus, I heard QOS was one of the best in the series? But just as a precaution, I’ll leave this one off the list for now until I’ve read HOF.

The Judgement: GO

FALLING KINGDOMS | Morgan Rhodes

I’d definitely planned on reading this one last year. I’d even read the first chapter! But then I got distracted by a new release and I forgot to continue on with the book. I liked the small section that I read and I’m always down to try out a new fantasy series. I just need to be in the right mood for this one, I think. So I’m guessing that I’ll probably be reading this book in the summer!

The Judgement: KEEP

I AM MALALA | Malala Yousafzai

Non-fiction isn’t usually my cup of tea, but there are some books that catch my attention, namely autobiographies, biographies, and historical texts. So, this book has, of course, caught my eye. I’m sad to say I only know some basic facts about Malala, and so I would love to know more. My dream is to snag an audiobook version of this, because I won’t usually sit down and read bios, but I’ve been trying for months now with no luck! So, I might just have to go on a hunt to find it in the library, buy it, or just continue waiting patiently for it to become available.

The Judgement: KEEP

PLACES NO ONE KNOWS | Brenna Yovanoff

Even though I adore the cover to this book, the premise doesn’t interest me as it once did. Also, I’ve read a few reviews and it seems to have an imbalanced reaction. Some people love it, some people hate it, but most feel very ‘eh’ about it. So, not sure what’s going on with this book, but I think I might be all right in setting it aside.

The Judgement: GO

PLEASE DON’T TELL | Laura Tims

The premise to this one still interests me. However, the reviews for it are middling and I’ve searched through my county’s database, and apparently, it’s not available anywhere?! I mean, how is that even possible!? So that means I would have to buy the book in order to read it and because I’m unsure about whether or not I’ll love it and it’s not at the top of my priority list, I’m not about to spend my cash money just to read this book. If one day I stumble across it, I might pick it up and read it, but for now, it doesn’t really have a place on my TBR.

The Judgement: GO

JACKABY | William Ritten

I’d been hoping to get around to reading this book last year but I never worked up the motivation to read it and even now, I lack the motivation. Which, I suppose, that means I’m not really all the interested in reading this book. I love the idea of a mystery drama that is a mixture of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Who but I also heard this book is somewhat boring and doesn’t execute the concept very well. At this point, as it’s been sitting on my TBR for about two years now, I can let it go. One day I might come across it in the library and get the urge to read it, but it doesn’t have to be on my official TBR!

The Judgement: GO

CONFESS | Colleen Hoover

I have yet to read a Colleen Hoover book. And I heard this one was better classified as New Adult, which I haven’t read much of now that I think about it. I’m not a huge romance reader, but I think I’d still like to give this one a try. The reviews are mostly positive and I think it’d be good for me to have a few more contemporaries on my TBR. Also, I need a reminder to read Hoover some day. So:

The Judgement: KEEP

WHY NOT ME? | Mindy Kaling

Again, there are only a few non-fictions I’m interested in reading and this is one of them. I’m not a HUGE fan of Mindy Kaling, per se, but I do like some of the themes that she explores. And she does have an interesting voice/perspective and I do find her funny most of the time. I think I’d like to hear a little bit more of what she has to say. Also, gotta expand my reading horizons!

The Judgement: KEEP

SERAFINA AND THE BLACK CLOAK | Robert Beatty

This is one of the few middle-grade books that I’ve wanted to read for some time. I read some of the reviews and it sounds like the writing is a bit dry and not all the characters fill in their roles, but that it’s still enjoyable overall. And that’s enough for me. Also, now that I’m a librarian for elementary children, I like to read what they’re reading once in a while, to get an understanding of what they like and to offer recommendations when needed.

The Judgement: KEEP

SAINT ANYTHING | Sarah Dessen

I don’t think I’ve ever read a Sarah Dessen novel…And I’ve been wanting to. I believe she’s considered one of the queens of YA contemporaries/romance. And sometimes I like to read those types of books. For me, Morgan Matson is my go-to romance author, but I wouldn’t mind trying out a Dessen book. The cover to this one is gorgeous and the synopsis sounds promising, so I think I wouldn’t mind trying this one out. Summer is nearly here, and I need a few summer contemporaries!

The Judgement: KEEP

THE TOTALS

KEEP – 6

GO – 4

Wow, I actually kept more books than I thought I would. I’m hoping to knock out a few of these during the summer so that they don’t remain on my TBR for any longer. I think they’ve sat there for a good while. For the ones I let go, I think they were the right choices, but I can always change my mind LOL.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Until next time, my friends ❤

  1. Falling Kingdoms is definitely worth reading, at least the first few books. I remember I enjoyed the first and third books, not so much the second I think… But overall, it’s a pretty cool series! I wouldn’t say it’s wholly unique or anything like that, but it is entertaining. I also liked the various POVs, even if some of them didn’t really interest me in the final books and I kind of felt like skipping them LOL
The only reason I kept with it was a certain OTP I kept shipping throughout but I don’t think even that will save FK at this point… There’s only one book left for me to read but I keep finding excuses not to and forgetting about it. Coincidence? I think not xD
Anyway, I hope you do have a wonderful experience with it! And like I said, it is a good series but does go downhill halfway through… In my opinion.
I hope you enjoy the others you’ve kept as well, Azia! 🙂

    1. Yeah, I heard the first half of the series was pretty great. And I always love a gold old fashioned fantasy adventure, so I’m already interested haha. I might try the audibook for the first book, but not sure yet. I think this is a reading sort of book? But I’ll try to stick with the series as far as I can and see what happens 😀
