Down the TBR Hole #4

Here we are again! I’ve added a few more books to my TBR, which means I’ve got to clear out some of the older books I’ve placed on there to make room! Also, I don’t want my TBR reaching 400…

As a reminder, Down the TBR Hole is a weekly book meme created by the wonderful Lia @ Lost in a Story that attempts to organize our ridiculously long Goodreads TBR list by choosing either to keep or eliminate the books we’ve saved on there.

ESPERANZA RISING | Pam Munoz

I remember wanting to read this book way back when I was in elementary school, but for some reason, I never got around to reading it. I recently received a new copy for my school library and since it’s within my grasp, I think I might keep it on my TBR and pick it up before summer break!

The Judgement: KEEP

ILLUSIONS OF FATE | Kiersten White

I love White’s Conqueror’s Saga (i.e. And I Darken), and long ago I had started her Paranormalcy series, but haven’t gotten around to finishing it. Even though this book sounds pretty interesting, I’m not sure that it’s at the top of my priorities list. It’s more like one of those books that I happen across at the library and pick it up on a whim or when I’ve read most of the books I’ve wanted to read. Or maybe I just need to be in the right mood for it. No matter the case, I don’t think it needs to be on my official TBR.

The Judgement: GO

OTHERMOON and OTHERSPHERE | (Otherkin; #2 & #3) | Nina Berry

I really liked the first book a while back, but obviously I’ve lost interest since then. I’m no longer deeply interested in shape-shifter series nowadays and I hardly remember the events of the first book. If I ever choose to revisit this series, I’ll start with Otherkin, not the second or third book.

The Judgement: GO

REAWAKENED | Colleen Houck

I bought the ebook version of the book, and I’m sort of glad I did because now I don’t have to get rid of a physical copy. I started reading the first couple of chapters last year and so many things about this book rubbed me the wrong way. There is a strong sense of cultural appropriation and there are several questionable themes running around that involve invasion of privacy, objectification, and cultural stereotypes. I might have been reading too much into it, but that’s what I came away with after reading a few pages. So I think it’s safe to say I won’t be making time to read the rest of Reawakened.

The Judgement: GO

SILENCE (Hush, Hush; #3) | Becca Fitzpatrick

I think I mentioned before that there is a movie in the works for this series. I never finished it and so I’d need to start from the beginning if I plan to reread this series before the film is released. Meaning, for now, I can get rid of all the Hush, Hush sequels.

The Judgement: GO

TOTALS

KEEP – 1

GO – 5

Thanks for stopping by! Until next time ❤

  1. I’d be the same about Illusions of Fate I think; I mean I love the cover, I’ve read and loved the Conqueror’s Saga and some of her to-be-released books sounds amazing but there’s nothing about it that’s jumping out at me and I have way too many books I need to read without adding one I’m on the fence about onto my TBR list you know?
I’ve read only one of Colleen Houck’s books and it really wasn’t for me. I mean it was good, but there was too much focus on the romance and not enough on the fantasy plot, which was a shame because it was a really interesting concept. I’ve seen too many mixed reviews to put her books on my TBR list.
Hopefully clearing out these will make more room for amazing books you’ll love.
    Great post Azia. 🙂 ❤

    1. Yeah, it’s okay to be picky when you’re TBR is miles long LOL.
I’m not sure what other people think about Houck, but if any of her future works are like Reawakened, I don’t think I could read anything else from her. I loved her Tiger’s Curse series, but I read that when I was much younger and I wonder if I’d feel the same about it now as I did then. I have a bad feeling I wouldn’t lol
      Hopefully! Thanks Beth 😀

      1. I know the feeling, there are so many books I read when I was younger which I absolutely loved, but thinking back on the story I know if I picked them up today I wouldn’t enjoy them as much (or maybe I would, but for nostalgia reasons rather than because the story is really good).
        That’s all right. 🙂 ❤

      2. That’s why I usually try to avoid rereading some of my older books LOL. I don’t wanna ruin it for myself XD But some books really do hold up over time!

  2. Great job here, Azia! I would probably keep Kiersten White’s just because I’ve been getting into her quite a lot recently and am curious to see what else she’s capable of. Loved her Elizabeth Frankenstein book and am currently reading Slayer, which is all right but I’m not sure how I truly feel about it yet… It’s picked up midway through but I don’t actively seek out to read it, you know? So I don’t feel like I’m truly invested. Hmm.
Colleen Houck… I’ve heard so much about her, and not in a good way xD As for Hush Hush I’m still unsure if I’ll ever try it. Just sounds like a book I would have liked when it first came out but will probably have grown out of it now… Although I do like angels and demons and the sort, I’ve heard it features a main toxic/abused relationship and I’m not too keen on those. Again, would probably be fine with them a decade ago but this girl is woke now LOL

    1. I wanted to read that Elizabeth Frankenstein one! I love how White has recently taken on alternate versions of historical figures and stories, so that one’s on my list. I’m unsure about Slayer since I’m not really a huge Buffy fan nor am I all that interested in vamps right now. But I’ll give it a try sometime. Have you managed to finish it? I liked Houck’s Tiger’s Curse series but Reawakened is a huge fail for me. Very scared to try any of her other books now LOL. And I know for a fact that I would have enjoyed Hush, Hush much more than I will now, but I’ll still give it a chance. Just for the movie and also to see if I still might like it haha. But I DO remember that toxic relationship. Very nervous to get into that, but hopefully its not as bad as we think it might be? I’ll let ya know when I get around to it haha
