Five February Releases I Didn’t Know I Needed

I’ve been having an extra hard time keeping up with this new swathe of YA releases, mostly because many of my favorite series ended in 2018 and I’ve also decided to read older series, so I have yet to begin any new series. Because of that I have no idea what’s coming out this year. Unless it’s by Cassandra Clare or Leigh Bardugo, I got NO CLUE what I want to read this year.

My main focus has been on books I’ve had sitting around in my library. Before I delved into my hidden cache, I discovered I had nearly 40 unread books in my room. And it was a shame because I had several good ones just waiting to be read: The Loneliest Girl in the Universe, A Lady’s Guide to Piracy and Petticoats, Ruin and Rising, Winter, Thunderhead, and even Bright We Burn.

I’ve got other great books that I STILL need to read: Circe, Little Fires Everywhere, I’ll Give You the Sun, The Hate You Give, Heir of Fire, Ash Princess, Fallen Kingdoms, Children of Blood and Bone, and Furyborn!?!?! Plus so many more staring mournfully at me as I keep buying new books and putting them all aside.

I knew what I wanted for January *leers at King of Scars and The Wicked King,* but then I determined that I didn’t need any February releases because I had more than enough books to last me until summer. But then I decided to take a gander at the Goodreads list of February YA releases and oh boy…

Because there were so many books I’m interested in reading, I negotiated with myself and determined I’d only buy FIVE new books next month. Here are the five I’ve decided on. (Keep in mind that these 5 books aren’t the only February releases that I want…)

FOUR DEAD QUEENS | Astrid Scholte

Goodreads Synopsis: “These are the words Keralie Corrington lives by as the preeminent dipper in the Concord, the central area uniting the four quadrants of Quadara. She steals under the guidance of her mentor Mackiel, who runs a black market selling their bounty to buyers desperate for what they can’t get in their own quarter. For in the nation of Quadara, each quarter is strictly divided from the other. Four queens rule together, one from each region…When Keralie intercepts a comm disk coming from the House of Concord, what seems like a standard job goes horribly wrong…”

WARRIOR OF THE WILD | Tricia Levenseller

Goodreads Synopsis: “As her father’s chosen heir, eighteen-year-old Rasmira has trained her whole life to become a warrior and lead her village. But when her coming-of-age trial is sabotaged and she fails the test, her father banishes her to the monster-filled wilderness with an impossible quest: to win back her honour, she must kill the oppressive god who claims tribute from the villages each year or die trying.”

ENCHANTEÉ | Gita Trelease

Goodreads Synopsis: “Paris in 1789 is a labyrinth of twisted streets, filled with beggars, thieves, revolutionaries—and magicians…

When smallpox kills her parents, Camille Durbonne must find a way to provide for her frail, naive sister while managing her volatile brother. Relying on petty magic—la magie ordinaire—Camille painstakingly transforms scraps of metal into money to buy the food and medicine they need. But when the coins won’t hold their shape and her brother disappears with the family’s savings, Camille must pursue a richer, more dangerous mark: the glittering court of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette…”

Goodreads Synopsis: “Sybella has always been the darkest of Death’s daughters, trained at the convent of Saint Mortain to serve as his justice. But she has a new mission now. In a desperate bid to keep her two youngest sisters safe from the family that nearly destroyed them all, she agrees to accompany the duchess to France, where they quickly find themselves surrounded by enemies. Their one ray of hope is Sybella’s fellow novitiates, disguised and hidden deep in the French court years ago by the convent—provided Sybella can find them…”

CLOUDED BY ENVY | Candace Robinson

Goodreads Synopsis: “Brenik has always been envious of his twin sister, Bray. Growing up as fairy-like creatures, known as bats, everything came easier to Bray. While Brenik spent his time in her shadows, never feeling he was enough. After escaping their world of Laith, and living on Earth for ten years, Brenik attempts to strike a deal with the Stone of Desire to become human. Though true humanity is not an option, he will accept the curse that will alter him to get as close as he can…”

Until next time! ❤

  1. I’ve got to say the idea of only buying five books on February to make it through the books you already have you still need to read is a great one Azia. 🙂 I should probably try the same but I’ve probably exceeded five already simply counting the pre-orders I have waiting for me on Amazon.
I hope you enjoy all of these books though, I don’t have any of them on my TBR list myself but I did get an eARC of Enchantee so I’ll be interested in seeing what you think of that one for sure. Great post, and good luck with your five book budget and getting through some of the TBR list backlog you have. 🙂 ❤️

    1. Let’s see if I’ll actually be able to stick with it LOL. But I’m really desperate to read my older books in my room, so hopefully that motivation keeps going until I get through all of them. But it’s so hard because there are so many amazing books coming out it seems! And it sounds like I might need to go into Enchanteé with slightly lower expectations, just in case. I like the cover, though, so I’ll lead mostly with that lol

Thanks Beth, and I hope you enjoy all your books you’ve preordered!❤

      1. If you have plenty of books already to get through hopefully that will keep you too busy to order too many new ones. I know what you mean, it seems like there are so so many incredible releases in 2019.
Thanks, I can’t wait to get my hands on them all. 😀 ❤

    1. It’s so hard to try to not buy all the books 😭 lol.

Oh no! Well that one is the one I’m a little on the fence about. Hopefully it’s at least entertaining haha.

      Thank you for commenting! 😀

  3. Ahhh you need to read Children of Blood and Bone and I’ll Give You The Sun, I loved both so much! I also heard great things about Little Fires Everywhere so I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on that one 🙂 On your most anticipated list, I got lucky enough to read Enchantée and I personally liked it, but… I expected a bit more from it, the pacing was a bit slow :/ I hope you’ll love it though 😀 happy reading!! ❤ ❤

    1. I started reading Children of Blood and Bone a while back but for some reason I stopped. I’ll definitely have to pick it up again this year! And I’m so excited for Little Fires Everywhere. My friend said it’s one of the best books she’s read.

And it seems like on Enchanteé seems to be getting a similar response from other people who’ve already read it. But I’m still excited to give it a try!

Thanks so much! And you too!😁😁

  4. Warrior of the Wild!!! I haven’t even finished Daughter of the Siren Queen but I want it so bad *_* (I’m terrible xD)
Girl, I feel your pain. So many unfinished/untouched books in my shelves/Kindle as well and do I even want to pick them up? No, I want the shiny new releases that I keep seeing on Twitter and Instagram! It pisses me off so much xD
    I think we’ll eventually find some sort of balance… I think… Hope… LOL
Great post, hon, and great decision on settling for five books. (You’re a brave soul and I salute you) Your wallet and your sanity will thank you!
