You ever get in that mood when you just want to read everything so you try to read everything at the same time????
Yeah. That’s where I’m at. I’ve started several books but have gotten bored or disinterested halfway through and began reading other books. So now I’m reading four books at a time, not including my little kindle books on the side.
TRULY DEVIOUS | Maureen Johnson
Initial Thoughts: I actually finished this one towards the beginning of the month! I’d been dying to read a good YA mystery and had yet to find one. But I’d heard so many great things about Truly Devious that I finally picked it up! And I’m happy to announce that it lived up to the heist. It’s clever, humorous, well written, and filled to the brim with intriguing characters. I can’t wait to see what happens next, because I mean what an ending?!
UNENCHANTED | Chanda Hahn
Thoughts: There are just some days when you feel like rereading a book you loved in the past. About a week ago I just got the urge to reread this book again. Or rather, to reread the series. I can’t believe I read this book 5 years ago?! It really doesn’t feel like all that time has passed. But anyways, it was a great throwback. I noticed a lot more mistakes the second time around, but it’s still a pretty clever spin on the Grimm fairytales.
CLOCKWORK PRINCE | Cassandra Clare
Daan @ A Library Monster and I have started our buddy reads again after a mini-summer hiatus. We dove right back into The Infernal Devices trilogy. When I was younger, I think Clockwork Prince was my favorite. (I can’t remember a damn thing from this series…). Though after reading the first 150 pages, I’ve got to admit that they’re really boring. I’m sincerely hoping that the pace picks up from here on out. But seeing Jem on the page always makes the story a little better.
SEA WITCH | Sarah Henning
I’m halfway through this book and I’m starting to see that I need to quickly amend my expectations if I want any enjoyment from this reading experience because this book is turning out to be completely different from what I had envisioned. This isn’t the dramatic, revenge-filled, rise of the most iconic fairytale villainess story I had wanted. Instead, it’s much quieter. More like a historical fiction mixed with fantastical elements. I’m not a huge fan of the romances, but I like Evie and Nik is also charming. And the attention paid to Danish history, culture, and folklore is note-worthy. It’s slow so that’s why I’m reading other books at the moment.
THE COLDEST GIRL IN COLDTOWN (Audiobook)| Holly Black
This is the second audiobook I’ve given a go! And I’m pleased to say that I’m enjoying it! Mostly. Mostly being that the narrator is much more compelling than the last narrator I had to endure for Red Sister. And I love how there are musical cues to go along with the dark tone of the book. Unfortunately, the story itself is where it falls weakest. Tana is a relatable character, but man is she kinda stupid. So many questionable (bad) decisions going on in this book. And all the other characters are horrible. Except maybe Gavriel, but he leans more into the charmingly pretentious category. The pacing is torturous, and sometimes Black’s poetic prose runs away from her to the point that the descriptions outweigh the actual plot, which is almost non-existent. I love how these vampires are more vicious (like Kagawa’s Blood of Eden series) but the characters and overall plot are proving to be kind of disappointing so far.
ESCAPING FROM HOUDINI | Kerri Maniscalco
I’ve been waiting for this book for what feels like ages. So when it finally came in the mail, I immediately began reading it. Three books at once be damned. Four is where it’s at. I’m incredibly excited to read this one. I’m about 100 pages in and I’m loving it. I’m getting a bit of a Caraval/Legendary feel from it, but that ain’t no problem for me. I love me a good mystery, which is always made better with great characters. Also, look at the cover. So. Gorgeous. So those are the books I’m working on as of right now! Hopefully, I can finish them all before the month is out! 😀
Thanks for stopping by. Until next time! ❤
