Reading Update | Reading Four Books at Once

You ever get in that mood when you just want to read everything so you try to read everything at the same time????

Yeah. That’s where I’m at. I’ve started several books but have gotten bored or disinterested halfway through and began reading other books. So now I’m reading four books at a time, not including my little kindle books on the side.

TRULY DEVIOUS | Maureen Johnson

Initial Thoughts: I actually finished this one towards the beginning of the month! I’d been dying to read a good YA mystery and had yet to find one. But I’d heard so many great things about Truly Devious that I finally picked it up! And I’m happy to announce that it lived up to the heist. It’s clever, humorous, well written, and filled to the brim with intriguing characters. I can’t wait to see what happens next, because I mean what an ending?!

Thoughts: There are just some days when you feel like rereading a book you loved in the past. About a week ago I just got the urge to reread this book again. Or rather, to reread the series. I can’t believe I read this book 5 years ago?! It really doesn’t feel like all that time has passed. But anyways, it was a great throwback. I noticed a lot more mistakes the second time around, but it’s still a pretty clever spin on the Grimm fairytales.

CLOCKWORK PRINCE | Cassandra Clare

Daan @ A Library Monster and I have started our buddy reads again after a mini-summer hiatus. We dove right back into The Infernal Devices trilogy. When I was younger, I think Clockwork Prince was my favorite. (I can’t remember a damn thing from this series…). Though after reading the first 150 pages, I’ve got to admit that they’re really boring. I’m sincerely hoping that the pace picks up from here on out. But seeing Jem on the page always makes the story a little better.

SEA WITCH | Sarah Henning

I’m halfway through this book and I’m starting to see that I need to quickly amend my expectations if I want any enjoyment from this reading experience because this book is turning out to be completely different from what I had envisioned. This isn’t the dramatic, revenge-filled, rise of the most iconic fairytale villainess story I had wanted. Instead, it’s much quieter. More like a historical fiction mixed with fantastical elements. I’m not a huge fan of the romances, but I like Evie and Nik is also charming. And the attention paid to Danish history, culture, and folklore is note-worthy. It’s slow so that’s why I’m reading other books at the moment.

12813630THE COLDEST GIRL IN COLDTOWN (Audiobook)| Holly Black

This is the second audiobook I’ve given a go! And I’m pleased to say that I’m enjoying it! Mostly. Mostly being that the narrator is much more compelling than the last narrator I had to endure for Red Sister. And I love how there are musical cues to go along with the dark tone of the book. Unfortunately, the story itself is where it falls weakest. Tana is a relatable character, but man is she kinda stupid. So many questionable (bad) decisions going on in this book. And all the other characters are horrible. Except maybe Gavriel, but he leans more into the charmingly pretentious category. The pacing is torturous, and sometimes Black’s poetic prose runs away from her to the point that the descriptions outweigh the actual plot, which is almost non-existent. I love how these vampires are more vicious (like Kagawa’s Blood of Eden series) but the characters and overall plot are proving to be kind of disappointing so far.

30375937ESCAPING FROM HOUDINI | Kerri Maniscalco

I’ve been waiting for this book for what feels like ages. So when it finally came in the mail, I immediately began reading it. Three books at once be damned. Four is where it’s at. I’m incredibly excited to read this one. I’m about 100 pages in and I’m loving it. I’m getting a bit of a Caraval/Legendary feel from it, but that ain’t no problem for me. I love me a good mystery, which is always made better with great characters. Also, look at the cover. So. Gorgeous.DividerSo those are the books I’m working on as of right now! Hopefully, I can finish them all before the month is out! πŸ˜€

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time! ❀

  1. I’m this exacttttttttt feeling, Azia. I literally have so many anticipated books that I’ve collected all at the same time, and I literally can’t focus on the one I’m trying to read because I’m thinking of all the amazing ones I could be reading. I hope you enjoy them all! πŸ™‚

  2. I admire your reading skills so, so much right now πŸ˜‚ I can only read one book at a time, so I’m so impressed to see you can read sooooooo many books, that’s amazing.
It’s been a while since I’ve been interested and found a good YA mystery, I’m so glad that Truly Devious lives up to that hype and I think I might pick it up, if I’m in the mood for a mystery! πŸ™‚
I also heard great things about Sea Witch – I’m sorry it’s not like you anticipated it to be, but I’m happy you’re still finding things to like about the book and the characters πŸ™‚
    Happy reading! πŸ˜€

    1. Lol, thank you! Honestly, it’s a blessing and a curse. Sometimes it takes me ages to finish just one book. But I usually end up reading several books at once when I’m not entirely invested in a story. So it’s always a good sign when I end up reading one book at a time. Means I reallllllly like the book I’m reading!

Yes! Please check out Truly Devious! It’s such a clever little book with fun and unusual characters. I really do hope you end up loving it if you choose to pick it up.
Thanks you! I recently finished Sea Witch and even though it’s not a perfect book, it does many things right, especially in the end!
      Thanks so much! πŸ’•

    1. I only end up reading several books at once when I’m not fully interested or invested (for several reasons) in a book. So reading one book at a time is actually a good sign for me.

  3. I’ve never managed to read more than one book at a time, so I’m kind of in awe at the fact that you’re reading four at a time! πŸ™‚ I really hope you enjoy these ones Azia. Sea Witch is a favourite of mine so I really hope you love that one and the whole of The Infernal Devices series is my favourites by Cassandra Clare so far. I still need to get around to the second half of her TMI series, I can’t starts TDA books until I have! πŸ™‚

    1. LOL, don’t worry. I don’t advise it. Sometimes is takes FOREVER to finish just one book. But it all depends on my mood. I only read multiple books at once when I’m feeling indecisive LOL. I hope you enjoy the other half of the TMI series! I have to finish those myself and reread The Dark Artifices before Queen of Air and Darkness comes! πŸ˜€ So excited!!
Thank you and you too!! πŸ˜ŠπŸ’–
