Wrap Up 2018 | My June Reads and Reviews

Is June already done!!?? My god, that went by hella fast. One moment it was my birthday month and the next it’s the middle of summer. Time is flying by this year it seems.

I made it my goal to read a whole bunch of books this month as a grand beginning to summer reading. And I made it happen! Lots of books, lots of different worlds. Feels good to dive into my books once again.

Some other cool things happened this month too so that’s wonderful as well 😀

What I've Read

SAVE THE DATE | Morgan Matson

I love Morgan Matson. Her books are always the perfect summer reads and Save the Date was no exception. It was funny, cute, and held some pretty good messages about family and individual growth underneath all the ridiculousness taking place. It’s like a rom-com in book form!

I’m definitely starting to understand why HP took the world by storm. These books hold so much charm. Rowling crafted a near flawless fantastical world that is easy to get lost in. The writing is top-notch for a middle grade book and the characters are the stars.

LEGENDARY | Stephanie Garber

I was a huge fan of Caraval as it was reminiscent of my favorite book The Night Circus. However, I loved Legendary even more because it allowed the story of Legend and Caraval to come into its own. The world in this sequel is larger, more magical, and accented with an otherworldliness element that wasn’t fully explored in the first book. Also, Tella is a much better MC to follow along with. Loved everything about Legendary.

THE LAST OF AUGUST | Brittany Cavallaro

I really enjoyed the first book in this series. I thought it was a pleasant nod to the Sherlock Holmes series and to the BBC Sherlock as well. The second book is very much the same, only up to a certain point, the point being the highly anticlimactic and messy ending.

I love the ACOTAR series but I was not a fan of this installment. Honestly, I thought this book was mostly pointless and extremely boring. It took me a full month to complete this. There were a few scenes that I couldn’t help but enjoy (i.e. snowball fight and Solstice Eve dinner) but other than that, this was tough to get through.

THE HATING GAME | Sally Thorne

I had no intention of reading this book until I saw it for sale for $2 on my nook. And thankfully it was a pleasant surprise. I didn’t enjoy the beginning but I eventually came to really like this rom-com. It reminded me so much of The Proposal, and the ending was adorable so points for making me smile.

WHITE RABBIT | Caleb Roehrig

Also another book I had no intention of reading until I saw it at the library and remembered I had seen this at a book fair months back and was curious to read it. So I set Eliza and Her Monsters aside to read this book in a night. It was a pretty good mystery with great pacing, but the characters were so-so and the romance was kind of problematic.

CLOCKWORK ANGEL | Cassandra Clare

It feels so great to reread this series. I’ve realized that I remember about 10% of this trilogy. There are sooooo many things that I’ve forgotten that it feels like I’m reading it for the first time ever. But my god I just love being reintroduced to Will, Tessa, and Jem ❤ This is a pretty slow book, but it’s well-written and holds many promises of a fantastic story to come.

3. I read so many books. It’s been a while since I’ve read so many in a month.

4. It was my 23rd birthday on June 17. I’m not one to celebrate it so my friend Jonah and I just had lunch with my friend Lala on the day of and then dinner with my friend Jonah a couple days after.

Monthly Goals1. Read 8 more books and try to keep up with reviews. As of today, I’m only behind one one!

2. Get back on track with blog hopping. I read so many books that I forgot to check my reader.

3. Buy my new cruiser bike so that I can get more exercise like I used to.

  1. Oh happy birthday for back in June Azia, and congrats on the job as well. It seems like June was a brilliant month for you all in all, and you got through some amazing books too. I read Legendary and Save the Date in June too. I agree with you on how Legendary was better than Caraval, and I loved Caraval so that’s saying something, and yes Morgan Matson’s books are the perfect summer reads. I think Save the Date is probably my second favourite by her (Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour and Second Chance Summer are tied for first at the moment!)
Great post, and I hope you have a better July. Happy reading. 😀 ❤

    1. Thanks so much Beth! ❤ I'm glad that you enjoyed Legendary just as much as I did. I thought it was brilliantly done. A definite improvement over the first, which is definitely saying something since the first was amazing as well! And wow! I think Save the Date is my third, just behind Second Chance Summer and Amy & Roger! 😀 Still have to read Since You've Been Gone though! Thanks again, and you too ❤

      1. That’s all right, and it makes me so excited for the third book. I’m sure there are so many places for Finale to go and if Legendary was better than Caraval I have a feeling book three will be the best of the lot! 🙂
Since You’ve Been Gone is good, but it can’t beat Save the Date, Second Chance Summer or Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour! 🙂
        That’s all right! 😀 ❤️

      2. I always think it’s quite a feat for a series to get better with each installment. Doesn’t really happen often. But I have high hopes for Finale!
Ah well, I guess I’ll just have to read it and see. Then I can finally say I’ve read all the Matsons haha XD Then I’ll move on to Kasie West!
