Wrap Up 2018 | My May Reads and Reviews

May was supposed to be the month where I made a full comeback from my hiatus. I started off strong with my posts AND my blog hopping but one thing led to another and my posting became irregular (again) and my blog hopping disappeared (again).

I got really tired from work but there were a couple other reasons that I THINK were actually pretty good. I stopped posting and blog-hopping for a sec because I’m focused on snagging a new job aaaaand I got caught up in a series!! YAAAAAY.

Anyways, I still managed to post this past month and do a bit of reading! Let’s see how I did.

What I've Read

Remember that post where I said I didn’t know what to read next? And I said my choices were among The Novice, The Belles, Children of Bone, and Court of Frost and Starlight?? And then I said later that I was probably going to read The Belles?

Yeah well, that never happened.

I’m still working my way through The Belles (I’ll explain later why it’s taking me so long to finish), but while I’ve been trying to read that, I finished up a novel and a trilogy.

Dread Nation | Justina Ireland

I thought this book was very entertaining. The beginning was slow but not boring and the ending was quick but too glossed over. Jane and Katherine shined as protagonists, the horror elements were well balanced with the political content, and Ireland’s commentary on race and racism is very insightful and proves to be applicable to today’s  social environment.

All For The Game Trilogy | Nora Sakavic

This series turned out to be one of my favorite series I’ve read in a long while. It holds brilliant characterization, entertaining sporting sequences, dramatic bouts of action, and plenty of dark yet realistic material concerning mental illness, various forms of abuse, and dysfunctional relationships. It’s some pretty heavy reading, but worth it in the end. I think this trilogy is comparable to The Raven Cycle in many ways, but is completely unique and meaningful in its own way as well. Highly recommend, although I offer a trigger warning to those who are sensitive to violence and images of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse.

Reading Update: I Don’t Know What to Read Next

Review: Dread Nation | Justina Ireland

Highlights

1. I drove up to LA for the first time since I got my car. It’s the farthest I’ve ever driven by myself. And because I convinced myself to do it, I got to spend the whole day with a good friend of mine before she moved to Seattle and I also got to stay the night at my sister’s house for the first time since we met. I watched her play Kingdom Hearts II. It was a good time.

2. Deadpool 2 was awesome. I’m not sure it was better than the first, but I still really enjoyed it.

3. I returned to bogging! For the most part anyways…

Monthly Goals

1. My birthday is June 17th and I’m really excited! I haven’t had a birthday party before, so I’m hoping to have one this year for the first time ever 😀

2. I’m currently interviewing for a library media technician position at an elementary school and I really want this job. I’d love to impress my interviewers and convince them I’m the one for the job! ❤

3. My wardrobe needs an upgrade. Two new pants and two to four new shirts and a couple of dresses would be a great start to revamping my wardrobe. More color and more a style that fits my personality is the goal 😀

4. More hiking with friends.

5. Visit LA one more time to stay over at Meg’s house and play Kingdom Hearts II again.

6. Stay on top of my blogging by scheduling posts, reviewing books faster, blog-hopping, and reading a lot more books!

  1. Oh I wouldn’t worry about not posting too much, it seems like you had a lot going on and I guess the good thing is they were positive things that kept you away rather than negative ones. 🙂
I hope you had a good May, congratulations on the job as well Azia that’s brilliant news, and you got through some great books too. I’ve heard so much about The Foxhole Court and most of it has been amazing, same goes for Dread Nation.
Happy birthday for June 17th (I’m also a June baby) and I’ll keep my fingers crossed you get the library media technician position as well.
Great post, and I hope you have an amazing June. 🙂 ❤

    1. Yeah, gotta think positive. I just miss the good ole’ days when I was able to post nearly 20 times in a month. But life has just gotten too busy and tiring so lowering my goals might be better for me at this time. Hopefully, though, I’ll be able to return to that consistency one day 😀
I did! And thank you ❤ I'm really hoping to snag that position. I'm certain I'd be happy in it. And place with books makes me happy.
I hadn't heard about the Foxhole Court until a coworker recommended them to me after I finished The Raven Cycle but I'm so glad she did. It was an amazing trilogy.
And happy June birthday to you, too!!
Thanks again and an amazing June to you as well ❤

      1. Ha, yeah one of the things about blogging is that it does need to change. We need to adapt and I feel like I used to be a lot more active in terms of posting and commenting than I am now but we can’t have everything can we?
That’s all right, and in that case I’m glad you found a series that can live up to the amazingness that is The Raven Cycle. 😀
Thanks so much Azia, and that’s all right! 🙂 ❤

      2. Yeah, times change. And so do our routines along with it 🙂 But that’s all right. I’ll find a new groove for blogging!
And thank you! I’m so glad I could too.

    1. Oh it’s so wonderful to see all the June babies speak up! 😀 I hope you manage to get your hands on Dread Nation soon and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did too! I did, thank you. Hope you did as well! Happy June 😀

  2. My May wasn’t that great when it came to blogging either! I didn’t end up posting nearly as much as I wanted and my blog hopping was non-existent. Hopefully June will be better for both of us in that regard. 😀
I seriously need to watch Deadpool 2! I adored the first movie, but somehow I never found the time to watch the second one. I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed it.

    1. Cheers to that lol. Let’s make a great comeback this month haha 😀
And I hope you find your way to Deadpool 2! It was hilarious and action-packed, just like the first. Also more emotional, which I actually liked! I think you’ll enjoy it 😀
