Last Week’s Read and Current Reads

Current “reads” is a bit of a stretch as I’m only reading one book right now. I’m a speed reader and I can usually finish a book within a day or two, but last week I wanted to take my time and slow down to catch up with some blog-hopping and posting. So, I only read one book: City of Bones.Β I wanted to savor my reread, since it’s been about 8 or so years since I first picked the book up.

I read a little bit of Warcross, but most of my attention was focused on my reread/buddy read of TMI. I’ll share my thoughts with you in a joint post with Daan @ A Library Monster, but I’ll say City of Bones was a great throwback to my teen days. SO. MUCH. NOSTALGIA.Finished

City of Bones

City of Bones (The Mortal Instuments, #1) | Cassandra Clare

Even though it’s not the best in the series, it’s still an above-average paranormal urban fantasy. Cassandra Clare’s skill may not be as well-honed in her later books, but she still does a great job of introducing her characters and of establishing a complex and thorough lore/history to highlight her intricate and engrossing plot. Great action, multi-dimensional characters, mythical/religious references, and complicated romance make this book a more than solid beginning to a beloved series.

Warcross | Marie Lu

I’m only about 50 pages in, but I can tell this is gonna be a good one. I’m getting some serious Sword Art Online/Ready Player One vibes (mostly because they’re similar concepts). As expected, the writing is strong in detail and character development, and I’m really excited to see where the story goes!

I’m not sure when Daan and I’ll be posting our buddy review of City of Bones, but it’ll happen sometime, don’t you worry.

In other news, I made myself a very happy camper by finally taking the leap and spending my cold hard cash on the new(ish) paperback collection of The Mortal Instruments!

LOOK AT THOSE SPINES!!! Such a proud book mama right now *proud stance* I’ve been hoping to buy this collection for months now, and I finally got around to buying it!

Now, I will probably never read from these books. I don’t wanna bend the covers/spines at all. So this is my plan, I’ll buy the old hardback versions, either used or new (though preferably used), and I’ll read from those only. A little extreme? I don’t think so…Books to ReadNow that I’ve finished City of Bones, my next read will be City of Ashes. However, I’ll wait for Daan to finish first, and then move on! Afterwards, I many finally pick up I’ll Give You the Sun. But I also promised my friend I’d reread Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour so we can talk about it. So, there are a couple books I can pick up within this week. For now though, I’ll be focusing on Warcross!

That’s all for now! Thanks so much for stopping by and I’ll see y’all soon!! ❀

  1. Ohh, I have those editions of The Mortal Instruments series, not gonna lie I mainly brought those ones because of the pretty spines! πŸ˜€ I have the same design on my TID books and they look so pretty on my bookshelves. I’m glad you enjoyed City of Bone, I agree with you when you say it’s not the best but I thought it was a solid start to the series and I feel like each book just gets better and better so it’s really the start of something amazing. πŸ™‚
I am so so so glad to hear that even though you’re only 50 pages into Warcross you’re loving it so far. Hopefully the rest of the book will be even better. You’ll have to let me know when you’ve finished what you thought of it!
    Great post Azia! πŸ˜€ ❀

Those spines are seriously beautiful! I’m slowly collecting those editions of The Mortal Instruments as well. I really need to find the third one, but my bookstore never seems to have it. Hopefully I will find it soon, as I really want to continue reading the series! πŸ™‚
