Reading Update

This is going to be quick because I don’t have much time and I’d like to dedicate as much time as I can to my posts about publishing! Β I’ve been reading, not as much as usual, but reading nonetheless! In the past two weeks I’ve read three books, one of which was an e-novella.

The Spy | Paulo Coelho

Thoughts: Too short. Rushed. Not as complex or insightful as expected. Something vital missing from this interpretation of Mata Hari’s life. Good but certainly not good enough a depiction of this fascinating woman’s life.

Looking for Alaska | John Green

Thoughts: Alaska is a character I’ve seen before in John Greens’ books, and so I found her mostly unimpressive. But the book itself is fantastic. Don’t really like all the characters but I understand them. Very touching and enlightening. A must read.

That Alien Feeling | Alessandra Hazard

Thoughts: Unexpectedly graphic, especially with that innocent looking cover. Great beginning, lackluster ending. Harry, the MC, is strange but so adorable. Not a fan of his love interest, Adam, though. The politics and lengthy explanations of his alien culture and biology made things much more convoluted than needed. Interesting and fun.

*I probably won’t be doing a full review for any of these books.

Scythe | Neal Shusterman

I’m really enjoying this book. It’s morbid, but extremely entertaining. It raises some really interesting questions about morality, humanity, and societal limitations as well as ethical decisions, political regulations, and individual and community identities. It’s so much more than a book about people who are legally ordained to kill people. It’s social commentary. I’m half-way finished, but I can already see this book as being one of my favorite YAs.Books to ReadI haven’t been in the mood to finish When the Moon Was Ours so maybe I’ll return to it before this month ends. But I’ve got my sights set on these two books for my possible upcoming reads:

All righty then! That’s all for now. Despite my monthly goal to visit the reader every Β day, I haven’t been in the mood to do blog-hopping. Hopefully I can make that happen soon. I’m sorry for taking so long to stop by and say hello 😦 Β I really would love to, so don’t give up on me just yet.

Until then, I hope all is well and I’ll see y’all soon ❀

  1. I think I’ve mentioned before that I find all the characters in Looking for Alaska extremely annoying πŸ˜‚ But I’m happy for you that you enjoyed it! x

    1. They ARE all so very annoying haha. Didn’t like a single one of them LOL. But the construction of the story was well done, though πŸ˜€ So, I give it lots of points for that at least. Thanks, Izzi!

      1. Yeah, it’s kind of weird. Sometimes the story/message is enough to keep me reading, despite my dislike for the characters. But I sincerely feel like Green didn’t really want for us to like the characters. Just understand them? Because I feel as if it’d be hard to like any of them irl LOL

      2. Maybe! I love unlikable characters usually, but I feel like these ones in particular are not unlikable in the sense I enjoy, they’re just annoying xD But yeah I think you’re right! x

  2. Oh I have Looking for Alaska on my to-read list as well. The only John Green book I’ve actually read is The Fault in Our Stars but I need to get around to his others someday. πŸ™‚
I hope you manage to finish When the Moon Was Ours at some point, it’s a favourite of mine so I hope you love it when you do, but in the meantime oh The Language of Thorns is an amazing read. I’m sure you’ll love that one. I think I can safely say it’s one of my top reads of the year so far! πŸ˜€
I hope you enjoy Scythe and the others books next on your to-read list, and happy reading Azia! πŸ˜€ ❀

    1. Looking for Alaska was great. I wish I had read it much sooner. I can see how it would have been so progressive back when it was released πŸ™‚
I hope so, too. I’m not sure why I lost interest in WTMWO but I hope I fall into the mood to finish it up someday soon! I’ve finished up The Darkest Part of The Forest and Scythe. I’ve got my eye on Language of Thorns next. I think I’m just in the mood for eerie, dark reads since Halloween is just around the corner πŸ˜‰
      Thanks so much, Beth! ❀

      1. Well you got around to it before I did which is something at least. πŸ™‚ One day I’ll read it as well and probably feel the same way you did.
Maybe it’s just one of those books you need to be in the mood to read. Wow you’ve got through a good few books lately, and I think The Language of Thorns is a perfect eerie read for Halloween! πŸ˜€
