The Amsterdam Book Tag

A month or so ago I was tagged by the ever-so-lovely Sophie @ Blame ChocolateΒ to do this cool little tag, which was created by Michelle @Β The Writing Hufflepuff. Both of their blogs are gorgeous! Michelle’s graphics are insane and Sophie’s reviews are brilliant. Be sure to check them out πŸ˜€

All right:

Why Do We Have So Many Cheese Stores in One Street?

(A Cheesy Read)

Anna and the French Kiss is all kinds of cheese. It’s got the bleu cheese, the parmesan cheese, the brie, and the mozzarella. It’s got all the tropes and stereotypes, but hey, it’s still a really cute read.

Canal Parade

(A Book That Celebrates the LGBTQ Community)

Wow, this is a hard one to choose just one. I have so many favorites. Today, though, I’ll go with Carry On, mostly because I have so many chapters I love to reread and Baz is the ultimate sassy character.

Anne Frank HouseΒ

(A Book That Made You Cry)

I don’t cry. My heart is as cold as a submerged iceberg. But there have been some books that made me tear up.

Damn the ending to Lord of Shadows. Damn it all to hell.

Museum Square

(An Artsy Book)

I might not have been a huge fan of House of Furies, but the book itself is very pretty. Some pages, including the end-papers are dedicated artistic spreads of paintings and gothic images. The chapter titles are calligraphic and are printed in dark blue font. And some pages are journal entries with sketches. So, it’s actually a very visually appealing book!

Pigeons, Pigeons Everywhere

(An Annoying Character)

It’s a shame when the main character is the most annoying character…Mare, I’m looking at you, ma’am. However, Mare’s not the only one…You too, Kilorn. And you know what? Let’s throw in Cal, too. I don’t care anymore.

Red White Blue

(Recreate the Dutch Flag Using Books)

Sorta, kinda, yeah?

  1. Thank you so so much for tagging me ❀!! I loved Amsterdam last time I visited -it’s such a beautiful city. And your answers cracked me up πŸ˜‚. Anna and the french kiss definitly has a whole selection of cheeses going on there but I loved it.

    1. Of course! πŸ˜€ And yay! Amsterdam looks like such a cool city. I’m glad you got to visit! And yeah, Anna is so cheesy but it’s the perfect feel-good book, so I’ll eat the cheese. It’s fine πŸ˜‚ Who doesn’t love cheese?

  2. Mare is quite annoying, but I loved the book anyway. She wasn’t annoying in Red Queen, but she did get to be that way in the second and third book, especially Glass Sword.
    My favorite character is Shade.
Have you heard Amsterdam by Imagine Dragons?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. She really is. And same, I didn’t feel that way about her in the first book. I really liked Red Queen! But Glass Sword just destroyed her character for me :/ Shade’s my favorite too. Although, I like Maven too.
      And I haven’t. What’s it about?

      1. Oh Jesus, I read your comment all sorts of wrong LOL. I instantly thought it was a book for some reason. But then I saw Imagine Dragons LOL XD. I love them. I’ll have to listen to that song πŸ™‚ Thanks for the recommendation

  3. Yay, you finally did this one!! Great answers, by the way πŸ™‚
I still need to try Anna and the French Kiss (looks perfect for a cozy, rainy day huh?) and Clare’s prequels/sequels sound super appealing! I just don’t want to read TMI… So I guess I’m stuck? xD
Also, that photo reminded me I still haven’t read Fire or Bitterblue!! ARGH. Brain, why do you forget these amazing books? T_T
Thanks so much for the shout out, Azia ❀ You're the best!

    1. Yup! Finally got around to it LOL. And thank you! πŸ˜€
Yes, Anna is the perfect rainy day, pick-me-up type of book. It’s just so cute and fluffy haha. Clare’s books are all so good. TMI starts off rocky, then gets much better as the series goes along. TID is a vast improvement and TDA is even better! I highly recommend TID if anything πŸ˜€ Both Fire and Bitterblue are great! I don’t like either book as much as Graceling, though. I love Po too much haha
Of course and *blush* thank you, Sophie! ❀

      1. But they are just so LOOOONG hahaha I kind of just want to dive into them and skip the rocky start? Because I heard Clare’s writing improves A LOT in later books. Do you think I’d be too confused just reading TID?
Aaaahhh yes!! Po is still one of my favorite book boyfriends of all time and I can’t, can’t believe it’s over and I will never read about him again πŸ˜₯ πŸ˜₯ πŸ˜₯

      2. Some people read TID first and then go back to TMI, which works chronologically, but you’d be working backwards by starting out with really good writing in TID and then reverting back to average writing in TMI. I’d advise against skipping TMI altogether though. Too many characters and storylines are pulled from the series in both TID and TDA :/
Oh I knoooow!!! I wish there had been a solo book for Po. I would have loved a book like that ❀

      3. Please do it! I’ll reread TMI with you if you decide to read it πŸ˜€
No…I hope so too…YOU NEVER KNOW. Our dreams might come true XD

  4. Great answers for this tag Azia. πŸ™‚ I definitely agree it’s hard to pick just one book that celebrates the LGBT+ community but Carry On is a great one, and just a brilliant book in general as well. πŸ™‚
Also I haven’t read Lord of Shadows yet but I’ve heard plenty about that heartbreaking ending. I won’t be starting that book until the third on is released that’s for sure. I definitely agree with you about Mare. I’m not sure I’ll be carrying on the Red Queen series because it’s hard to enjoy books when you don’t like the main character. :/
Again great answers for this tag, I loved reading this post. πŸ™‚ ❀

    1. Thanks Beth! πŸ˜€ Carry On is so much fun. I was stuck choosing among Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda, The Song of Achilles, and Dante & Aristotle! Went with Carry On, though, because I recently reread a few chapters LOL
I really liked Red Queen. So it’s a shame that I can’t connect with Mare in Glass Sword. I haven’t even tried to finish it since last year haha
      Thanks again! ❀

      1. That’s all right. πŸ™‚ Oh those are some hard choices. I don’t know how I would have been able to choose. Still Carry On is a great choice.
Oh that is a shame, I wasn’t a massive fan of Red Queen to begin with. I do think Glass Sword destroyed that series for me though.
        That’s all right. πŸ™‚ ❀

  5. Thank you for tagging me! ❀
I really want to read Carry On, as I have heard so many amazing things about it! Though I do have to read Fangirl first, so I have no idea when I will get around to it, but hopefully soon. Hearing that you loved it makes me even more exited to pick it up! πŸ˜€

    Liked by 1 person

    1. No worries! ❀ πŸ˜€
And I actually read Carry On first. I think it helped clarify the Simon passages in Fangirl. I feel reading those passages without any context might have been a little more confusing. But it's up to you! πŸ˜€ I hope you enjoy them as much as I did once you get around to picking them up!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Oh I see, I thought that I had to read Fangirl first. If that’s the case I will definitely be picking up Carry On first, as I’m much more interested in that book!! πŸ˜€
