Down the TBR Hole | Books 86 – 95

It’s been a while and my TBR keeps piling up. So, I guess it’s that time again. Got some end of summer cleaning up to do. And because I will probably forget to do this post next week, I’m doing 10 books this time! I’m hoping I’ll have a few “easy pickings” on this list.

Down the TBR Hole is a weekly book meme created by the wonderful Lia @ Lost in a Story that attempts to organize our ridiculously long Goodreads TBR list by choosing either to keep or eliminate the books we’ve saved on there.

The Books:

End of Days (Penryn & the End of Days, #3) | Susan Ee

Ah yes. “Easy pickings.” I read this book last year and enjoyed it quite a bit. I’d have to say that it was my least favorite of the three, but it was still a pretty good conclusion to the trilogy. You can read my review for it here, if you’d like.

Gathering Darkness (Falling Kingdoms, #3) | Morgan Rhodes

This one is also “easy pickings” because I haven’t finished the first book and I don’t like to add sequels before I know whether or not I’d like to continue on with the series. So, for now, I can keep this one off the TBR.

The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, #1) | Rick Riordan

I really would like to finish the Percy Jackson series before starting any other series by Riordan, but only because I fear they’re all connected. Still, this is the first in a series and I’m looking for fantasty books my student might be interested in reading. So, I don’t think it’d hurt to keep this one on.

The Last Ever After (The School of Good and Evil, #3) | Soman Chainani

I’ve heard some good things about this middle grade series and I’ve been meaning to start it. Also, it might be a potentially good read for my student. But he and I won’t be starting with the third book. This one can go for now.

Dorothy Must Die | Danielle Paige

I’ve actually been meaning to read this one in the past few weeks. I’ve seen it at my local library but I keep getting distracted by the newer releases. Once I’ve finished my current reading load, I’m pretty sure I’ll get around to this one by next month!

When We Collided | Emery Lord

I think I was confusing this one for another book. The premise sounds pretty generic but still something I’d enjoy reading. Plus, I could always use a break from my fantasy binges with an interesting contemporary!

Grisha 3

Ruin and Rising (Shadow and Bone, #3) | Leigh Bardugo

This is the third and final book in the Grisha trilogy that I still have NOT read. I feel so ashamed. I LOVE Leigh Bardugo, but I have yet to finish her original series. I plan to do so soon, hopefully before Language of Thorns comes out!

Through the Dark ( The Darkest Minds novella collection) | Alexandra Bracken

There I go again, adding books just because of the cover. I haven’t read the Darkest Minds trilogy just yet, and I’m not even sure if I will. Until I decide, I think these little novellas can wait.

Looking for Alaska | John Green

I recently bought this book at the bookstore in my little library for 50 cents! I’ve heard so many good things about this one and I thought I’d give John Green another try. I didn’t like TFIOS or An Abundance of Katherines, but I did like Paper Towns. So, this book will be my 4th attempt in trying to decide if I actually like John Green or not.

The 100 | Kass Morgan

I’m a huge fan of this show and I’ve always wondered about the book. Many people have told me it’s not as good as the show and that I might be wasting my time reading it, but I’m still really curious to see what the differences are between the TV series and the original story! So, I think I’ll still try it out one day.

Keep – 6

Go – 4

KK, that’s all for now! What’d you think of my choices? Do you know any of the books I listed? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for stopping by! See ya soon ❤

  1. Ooh, you should definitely finish up Ruin & Rising!! Also, a bunch of books on your TBR are also ones I’ve been meaning to read for the LONGEST time. :’)
And I’m so happy to hear that you adore The 100!! Have you caught up to the latest season??– I have NO IDEA how I’m going to wait for the next one to air!! I’ve also heard that the books aren’t really as good as the show, so I’m probably going to avoid them for a while.

    1. I definitely have to make time for Ruin & Rising. I’ve put it off for so long 😦 And me too LOL. Those books have been on my list for about a year actually. Maybe longer… And no I haven’t! I’m so mad. It’s taking me forever to get through the third season. I’m just not all that into the ALIE plotline. Also, I’m dying to see Bellamy and Clarke get together haha. I really want to move on to the fourth season, but I’m strugglin’ LOL

      1. Eeek, the third season definitely wasn’t my fave– tbh, Lexa was the best part of it. It’s just crazy to see how far the characters have gone, and how much they’ve grown. Like… can you believe how much Bellamy has matured? And OCTAVIA, omg??!! And also to think of how many people have been brutally killed off, and will probably be killed off in the future… *single tear*

      2. Lexa was definitely the highlight of the third season. Well, for the first half of it anyway. And I know right?? Bellamy’s transformation is just so amazing. Octavia even more so. She’s just so fierce now. I fear for some of these characters. I feel like no one is safe. I especially fear for Jasper. I’m wondering if he’ll ever heal :/

      3. Yes, Lexa will forever be my Heda, no matter what the evil writers do to her. 😥

One time I rewatched the first couple of websites because I was having a 100 withdrawal, and I almost laughed when I saw the tension between Bellamy and Clarke. THEY’RE SO CLOSE NOW. I love it. I love them all.

And oh dear, Jasper… he’s still all broken up, isn’t he?? Oh dear.

      4. I really think they killed her off too early…Why do they always kill off Clarke’s SOs??

Lol, I’d rewatch the beginning, just to see how much they’ve changed. It’s crazy to think at one point they hated each other!

And he sure is. I fear he might not get better and might actually go the next season…

      5. Weeell, to be completely honest, Jasper got on my nerves during the next season. I empathized with him, and I knew that he was taking things harder– but so many of his friends were also hurting, and placing the blame on others didn’t help at all. But seriously, SUCH a change from the happy-go-lucky boy wearing goggles he used to be. It makes me sad to think about. )):

      6. Oh don’t worry, he annoys me too. Everybody has lost somebody and Jasper is acting as if he’s lost more than everyone else. He’s placing the blame too much on Clarke 😦 It’s really frustrating. I want him to get better but I seriously think he’s too broken to be fixed

      7. I’ll definitely be moving on to the next season. I NEED to see Bellamy and Clarke become a couple haha. Can’t wait to see how the story progresses!

      8. They sure are. I swear, if we have to wait until season 5 or 6 for them to be an item, I’m jumping ship LOL. Not really, but I’d be hella tempted to haha

      9. I know right? I mean, just imagine. They’d be the definition of a power couple haha.

I guess we’ll just have to wait patiently for it to happen. I’m more than sure it’ll happen soon, though! It has to…

      10. LOL. I’m starting to think I might need to visit some of those accounts. I think it might be nice to see what other people think of the show and their relationship 🙂 But I should probably catch up before I do that haha

  2. I’m the same with the Percy Jackson books. I’ve read the first book, but the second book doesn’t appeal to me as much as the Magnus Bane books do. I feel like I should read the PJ books first though, before starting any other series by Rick Riordan.

    1. Yeah, I read the first book and liked it well enough, but not enough to read the second book right away. I’m more drawn to the Magnus Chase books, too. But yeah, I’ll probably finish up PJ before moving on to any of his other series. I don’t wanna miss anything, especially if the worlds or characters are connected! 🙂

  3. I was a little worried when I saw ‘Go’ under End of Days by Susan Ee, then I read that you were removing it from your TBR list because you’d read it and I was a little relieved, not gonna lie! 😀
I really enjoyed The Darkest Minds series, but I haven’t read the novellas yet, to be honest they’re low on my priority list but if you get around to the main series on day I really hope you enjoy it. Same with Dorothy Must Die, I was not a fan of that book but maybe you’ll enjoy it more than I did. Either way I’ll be interested in seeing your review for that one Azia! 🙂

    1. Haha, it’s hard seeing some do this post and let go of books you adore LOL. But no worries. Loved the Angelfall series. The third book wasn’t my favorite, but it didn’t detract from the series as a whole! I’d read them again, actually. And I hope to get around to Darkest Minds soon, at least before the film comes out. And I’ve heard some pretty mixed reviews about Dorothy Must Die. I’ll give it a go because I love Wizard of Oz, but I’ll be careful not to go in with too high expectations 🙂 Thanks, Beth!

      1. The third book wasn’t my favourite either, but overall I thought it was a great series, and this is coming from someone not normally a fan of dystopian books.
Hopefully you’ll manage to get around to both soon, and yeah hopefully you’ll enjoy them as well. I think going into Dorothy Must Die with low expectations is the way to go though. 🙂
        That’s all right. 😀

      2. Yeah, it’s one of my favorite dystopians alongside the Blood of Eden series 🙂 Both of which I’ve read pretty recently. And I’ve come to realize that even though I like dystopians, I don’t have many favorites LOL.

  4. I got The Sword of Summer a couple of weeks ago! Percy Jackson is one of my favorite series of all time, so I had to get it. I have a copy of When We Collided too.
I’ve read Ruin and Rising. The book was a disappointment for me. While the ending wasn’t terrible, it wasn’t what I was hoping for.

    1. What did you think of both Sword of Summer and When We Collided? Or have you not yet gotten around to reading them just yet?
I’ve heard similar opinions about Ruin & Rising. I’m looking forward to finishing up the series, but I won’t keep too high expectations, just in case 🙂
