Down the TBR Hole is a weekly book meme created by the wonderful Lia @ Lost in a Story that attempts to organize our ridiculously long Goodreads TBR list by choosing either to keep or eliminate the books we’ve kept on there for YEARS.
The Books:
Ballad (Books of Faerie #2) | Magge Stiefvater
I read the first book in this duology, Lament, several years ago and honestly I can’t remember a thing about it. However, the first book is special to me in that it introduced me to Stiefvater. I have to reread the first book, but I think I’ll keep this one on my list to remind myself I still need to read it. And apparently, there’s a third book that may or may not ever be published. That doesn’t sound promising, but I’m willing to stick with it for now. The judgement:
Keep
Resurrection (Wicked #5) | Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguié
I’m not sure why this one’s on my list. Maybe I thought the eyes looked cool? Whatever the reason, I don’t have the same motivation to keep it on my TBR. The judgement:
Go
The Morganville Vampires, Volume 3 (The Morganville Vampires #5-6) | Rachel Caine
I haven’t read the first book in the Morganville Vampires series yet, and I haven’t heard much about it, but I think I still plan on reading it. I feel like I haven’t read a vampire book in a while, (besides the Blood of Eden series, but that series was a lot more bada** than I think these will be), and so I kind of want to keep this one on here. But if I don’t like the first book, then there’s no point in having this on my TBR right now. So, I’ll see if I have the first book or volume on my TBR and let this one go for now. The judgement:
Go
A Visitor’s Guide to Mystic Falls: Your Favorite Authors on The Vampire Diaries | Edited by Red and Heather Vee
Dag nabbit I did it again. I don’t even like the Vampire Diaries! After watching a few episodes of the TV series, I swore off the books and the show for all eternity. Maybe I judged it a bit too quickly, but I don’t think this one would keep my attention, even if I wanted it to. The judgement:
Go
The Wolves of Mercy Falls (Books 1-3) | Maggie Steifvater
This past December I began reading this series. I’ve finished the initial trilogy, and now I’m working my way through the companion novel, Sinner. After having this trilogy on my TBR for about three years, I can proudly eliminate these books from my list. The judgement:
Go
The Divergent Series 2-Book Collection(Divergent #1-2) | Veronica Roth
I don’t know why I put these collections on my TBR. It rarely works out. I tried reading the first book to this trilogy, but my friends spoiled the ending (I mean the Allegiant ending) for me, so I thought, “What’s the point?” With an ending like that, I didn’t want to spend my cold hard cash on the other two books. So I stopped reading Divergent, and I’m considering giving my copy away. The judgement:
Go
The Morganville Vampires, Volume 2 (The Morganville Vampires #3-4) | Rachel Caine
I’ve already decided to get rid of these Morganville volumes on my TBR and just add the the first book to the list. I want to be sure I’m interested in the series before allowing the sequels to sit on my to-read shelves.
Go
Inheritance Cycle 4-Book Hard Cover Boxed Set (Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, Inheritance)(The Inheritance Cycle #1-4) | Christopher Paolini
I THINK I thought I was being smart or efficient by adding these box sets to my TBR, but it’s turning out to be a pretty bad idea now that I’m going through my list again. I read Eragon a few years back, and it took me FOREVER to get through. It was a great book, but man, was it boring. I have the second book on my shelves, but I can’t work up the motivation to continue on with the series. So, the judgement for this one is:
Go
The Wake Trilogy (Wake #1-3) | Lisa McMann
Oh. Look. ANOTHER box set. This one is actually different because I remember a few of my friends recommended this series to me in high school and I’ve read positive reviews on it, but I never got around to reading the first book. I’m still interested in the trilogy, and I have faith it might actually turn out pretty well. So, I think this one I’ll…
Keep
The Maze Runner Trilogy (The Maze Runner #1-3) | James Dashner
Ha ha! Success. I have already read this trilogy. *Proud stance* Now all I have to do is add Fever Code to my TBR. But this one can…
Go
That’s it for now! What do you guys think of my choices? Did I keep the right ones? Have you heard of any of the others? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Good luck, haha! 🙂

I started my Goodreads account back up and I have like 10 books on my TBR.

Ah that must be so nice. It gets a little overwhelming when your TBR starts to reach the 100s LOL

Woooooo so many books went to “go”…at least you’re cleaning up your TBR! Which is great to do! You should keep what you definitely know you’re going to get too =)

I was so surprised at myself. Once you get used to the idea of letting some of those books go, you can just keep doing it over and over again 😀 I keep adding stuff to my list, but at least I’m getting rid of the ones I KNOW I’ll never read 😀 This meme really helps. I hope others are benefitting from it just as much as I am!

I hope so too!!! And you’re so right about doing it over and over again. A few months ago I deep cleansed my Goodreads TBR and I have never looked back lol. So good!

“It was a great book, but man, was it boring” so how exactly was it great? 😂😂😂
I love seeing people clear their TBRs a bit, it’s kind of satisfying in a way. 😃

LOL. I know it doesn’t make sense but I always use LOTR for an example. Those books are ridiculously boring, but the story is amazing! Eragon is kind of like that (although, not as good as LOTR, for obvious reasons haha)

I actually loved Divergent but Insurgent and Allegiant were such huge disappointments! 😦

I’ve heard that, too. That’s another reason why I put Divergent down haha. I was thinking of giving it another chance, but I’m sure I won’t now haha
